Here at Posse HQ, we’ve always got the latest issue of Yen Magazine floating around the office, so when we discovered their Editor, Annie Sebel, recommending her favourite places via Posse there was a collective squeal! In addition to sharing her favourite places to eat, sip & spend; we had a few questions of our own to fire at her:
Hey Annie, you’ve created a load of different streets on Posse! Tell us what you like about using it the site…
I’m slightly obsessed with researching and finding good places to eat and am always asking my friends for good recommendations, I love that Posse embraces this idea but brings it to a larger stage. I also like that Posse’s lovely design and illustrations give the site a friendly feel, it feels like a community rather than a faceless corporation.
Do you have a favourite cover?
It’s always tricky to narrow it down but I do love our Grimes cover. As a cover star Grimes mirrors Yen perfectly, she’s an independent, bright and extremely talented musician and individual. I loved the shoot, photographed by Bec Lorrimer, and think it’s such a fresh, striking cover. It was also our 10th birthday issue and came with a free mix CD of upcoming musicians and was a great celebration of Yen’s achievements over the years.
What are you reading at the moment?
I’m currently reading, Wallflower at the Orgy by Nora Ephron, it’s a collection of essays and magazine features she’d written over the years about different people and trends. I’d always admired her writing style and humour so bought a few of her books (Heartburn and I Feel Bad About My Neck: And Other Thoughts on Being a Woman) to read. They’ve got a great energy and rhythm and you find yourself flying through them.
Who’s the most interesting person you have met whilst working at Yen Magazine?
I got to interview cult movie director John Waters. He’s always been a hero of mine, he mixes humour, bad taste and manners like no other. As a teenager I was obsessed with his movie Hairspray and would watch it over and over. So when he was coming to Australia to do a stage show I got to interview him and he was just as charming, entertaining and interesting as I thought he’d be.
If you could go on a holiday tomorrow, where would you go?
I’m in countdown mode until my next holiday. In just over a week I’m off to Tokyo for two and am ridiculously excited. I’ve been a few times as my brother lives over there but I’ve never been when it’s Cherry Blossom season, so I’m hoping to catch that, see my fam, do A LOT of shopping and eating.
Have you got any cool competitions running at the moment?
Yes! 3 lucky people will be able to capture their favourite places on earth using this Copernicus La Sardinia camera pack from Lomography Australia/ New Zealand. To enter, sign up here & add your awesome places to Posse!
