hello san diego

Earlier this month we treated you to our selection of top Asian restaurants in Melbourne, so now it is time to turn to the States. When you think of San Diego, what comes to mind? Is it the beach life, Spanish influence, or maybe even Ron Burgundy? Well one of the things San Diego is renowned for is its delicious tacos, which come in all sorts of different ways. Fish tacos, beef tacos, chicken tacos, shrimp tacos, vegetarian tacos, hard-shell and soft-shell, not to mention all the accompaniments like red radishes, limes, and grilled chillis. Tacos are an institution in San Diego, and they simply cannot be missed, so don’t be shy, give a taco a try! Find all these awesome places on Posse today!

A great traditional style Mexican restaurant that was established in 1988, Super Cocina serves up traditional tacos by the truck load, day in, day out. If there is just one taco restaurant you should visit while in San Diego, then this is the place. Unpretentious and priding itself on the wholesome food it serves, Super Cocina serves some of the best tacos outside of Mexico. You are welcome to sample the different dishes they have before you choose what will go in your taco. So taste away to find your favourite!

Lucha Libre is a theme restaurant which is as fun as their tacos are delicious. You are encouraged to buy a Mexican wrestling ‘Lucha’ mask and dine in style at this kitsch diner, and as tacky as some might find the décor, you can’t argue with the fact that their tacos are top class. It is by no means an authentic Mexican restaurant, but for some childish fun and tasty tacos, it offers a unique dining experience.

Puesto

Puesto is a relatively new restaurant as taco restaurants go in San Diego, but its age has not stopped it from establishing itself as one of the best in the city. Puesto offers some funky new recipes and contemporary combinations when it comes to the tacos on their menu, so be prepared to try something different. You can mix and match as much as you like, and the restaurant prides itself on using organic and locally sourced ingredients. Try the pollo al pastor if the huge amount of choice is too much for you to handle.

The Tin Fish

A fantastic restaurant for great value fish tacos, The Tin Fish is found close to Pecto Park in the Gaslamp Quarter. It is a really popular place, being cheaper than many restaurants that surround it. Some of the different fish to enjoy in your tacos range from standard salmon to surprising swordfish. You’ll get a large portion and find your taco stuffed with cheese and cabbage too. So make sure you’re hungry!

If you want to enjoy your taco while gazing upon a sea view, then the South Beach Bar & Grill is the place for you. Often rated as one of the best taco restaurants in San Diego, you’ll find all sorts of seafood on the menu here. What’s more, it’s a real social hub for the San Diego residents, with great drink deals too. So have a shot of tequila to wash down your taco with!

Tip: Go prepared- make sure you have quality vacation cover!
