The Tailgate Experience is a new pre-game destination for Sydney Cricket Ground events. Borrowing the best parts of a beloved American pastime, the pop up bar aims to create a more social atmosphere around Australian sport. Finals footy is just around the corner and this is the best way to prepare for battle.
What’s a Tailgate Party?
Historically, Tailgate Parties are social events held on and around the open tailgate of a vehicle in the build up to a sporting match. A beloved American past time, supporters flock to the car park outside the stadium, crack open the esky, socialise, and prepare themselves for the game ahead.
The ‘Tailgate Experience’
Sydney duo Richard Colvin and Patrick Yeoland, have now brought their unique Tailgate Experience to Australia. Positioned directly across from the Sydney Cricket Ground, the pop up bar is decked out with everything you’d expect from a tailgate party. As you arrive you’ll be greeted by a family friendly event complete with live coverage of all pre game commentary, music and games of ring toss. The esky’s will be full of beverages, and if you’re in the mood grab one of the burgers from the grill.
Throw on your teams colours and aim to get down a few hours prior the match. It’s a free event, and if you missed out on tickets to the match inside the stadium there’s always coverage running on the Tailgate’s big screen. Drop back in after the match for a celebratory beverage, and sing the victory song.
