Quests, points & rewards

We’ve launched new features! Quests are inspired by competitions we’ve run for fans to earn special rewards for promoting their favourite band. Our most recent was for Aussie pop-rock band Amy Meredith. Their fans could win a meet & greet with the band members before their show as a reward for selling four tickets to the tour. Meeting your favourite band is a prize money can’t buy and the success of Amy Meredith’s Posse shows just how much fans love this opportunity.

Posse’s new quests let any band or festival set a task for their fans to earn recognition and a unique reward.

To be eligible for rewards you need to click the ‘join’ button before you start making sales –  sales you make before you have joined a quest won’t count. So make sure you join in each one before sending out your links.

We’ve also added status points for fans and their posses. Points show a fan’s success for their bands, as well across Posse as a whole. Fans earn points for every sale they help to make as well as for completing quests.

Other improvements we released at the same time include a browse page charting popular posses, recent announcements, and upcoming shows, improvements to your dashboard, and a sweet update to fans’ public profile pages. You can now upload your own large photo to lead the page, re-arrange your posses by dragging and dropping, and select which upcoming shows to feature for each band.

If you have ideas we’d love to hear them in our forum, or drop us an email.

Sydney Amy Meredith Show Review (by Wendy005)

Being ranked #2 in the Amy Meredith Posse, we asked Wendy005 to tell us what she thought of the show on Friday night.

You can check out the photos Wendy005 took here or keep reading for her review.

From early afternoon last Friday, fans of Amy Meredith were lining up outside the Metro Theatre for the sold out Sydney show of the Higher Education tour. Having sold tickets for the tour, I was invited to attend soundcheck. It’s really a lot of fun to watch the pre-show setting up, and I feel very priveleged to have been given the opportunity to see just what goes into preparing for a concert.

When doors opened at 7:30pm, and I watched the Metro fill up with excited fans, I knew it was going to be a night to remember. Within about a minute, the floor area was completely packed, and a few minutes later, so was the rest of the theatre. The crowd didn’t have long to wait before Bridgemary Kiss, the first of the special guests for the tour, took the stage. This four-piece band from Sydney got the crowd pumping with their raw, honest rock, and a very courageous stage dive from lead singer, Brett Ramson. Next on the bill were Sydney pop punk band Tonight Alive, fronted by the truly delightful Jenna McDougall (one of Australia’s best female vocalists in my opinion). Tonight Alive tore up the stage and quite literally had the audience jumping along to their high energy songs. If you get a chance, check them out on their own headlining tour coming up in July.

To say there was an air of excitement during the next set break would be an understatement. We were only minutes away from what everyone had come to the Metro to see, and we were sure it was going to be special. The lights went down, and the cheers went up, as a voice over welcomed us to ‘Higher Education’. Spotlights hit a spinning mirror ball as Amy Meredith took the stage to some very loud screaming and cheering, and opened with their first single, ‘Pornstar’. Hearing the incredible vocals of Christian Lo Russo being joined by 1300 backup singers is truly something to behold. Every song they played was a crowd pleaser, from the older self-titled EP track ‘Running’, to ‘Restless’ album tunes ‘Late Nights’, ‘Born To Live’ and ‘Carry On’, and the first Amy Meredith penned song (and always a fan favourite) ‘Black Eyes’. A lucky fan was picked out of the crowd to be serenaded on stage by Christian with Joel Chapman on guitar, to a fabulous acoustic rendition of ‘Kiss Me Quick’. Their most recent single, ‘Faded White Dress’ was a hit with the audience, and was followed by a fantastic cover version of Gnarls Barkley’s ‘Crazy’. The audience was having an absolute ball, and when the opening bars of Amy Meredith’s top ten hit ‘Lying’ started to play, the crowd was whipped into a frenzy, singing along to every line, with some of the loudest audience accompaniment I’ve ever heard. Being the last song of the set, Amy Meredith left the stage, however the audience was not going to let the night end there. Loud screams, cheers, and whistles joined the “Encore!” chant, and some impressive crowd foot-stomping, brought Christian, Joel, guitarist Cameron Laing, bass player Wade Osborn, and drummer Kosta Theodosis back onto the stage to play ‘Young At Heart’, which was exuberently accompanied by hundreds of excited fans. About two thirds through the song, the members of Tonight Alive and Bridgemary Kiss, joined Amy Meredith on stage to sing along, and join in the party that is an Amy Meredith show. After the show, the members of all three bands stayed around to talk to, in Christian’s words, “the people that we love”, and sign autographs, which is no small task considering the size of the crowd, but is very much appreciated by all the fans. Huge credit also to Brett Tollis for his flawless sound engineering, and Mike MacDonald for the spectacular lighting show.

If you have never been to an Amy Meredith show before, you are really missing out. They are an amazing live band, and put on a show you’ll be eager to see again and again. If you’re in Brisbane or Canberra, you’re in luck, as the ‘Higher Education’ tour bus is on its way this week and next week respectively, and you really should get along to it. You’ll be glad you did.”

We saw a lot of you at the Amy Meredith show in Sydney on the weekend, so make sure to check the gallery on our Facebook to see if you were snapped. The sound check parties are still happening around the country with those of you who sold 4 or more tickets, and we have photos from them too.

The Posse interns all met with the Amy Meredith boys on Friday afternoon  and were lucky enough to hang around for the sound check before attending the sold out show later than night. A big thank you to our wonderful interns for all their help, and all the best with your studies!

Posse is looking for our next batch of interns, so send your CV to jobs@posse.com and tell us why you should be one of them.

Sampology @ OAF 6/5/11

Review written by Vaughan from Posse

I ventured to The Oxford Art Factory on Friday night to catch DJ Sampology, his one-night appearance in Sydney as part of a national tour, an aptly titled “Super Visual Monster Mash“.  Recently returned from SXSW in Austin Texas, Sampology has been playing the Groovin’ the Moo festival around Australia, and promoting his recently launched “Super Sounds EP” through a series of gigs in many major cities.

The concept behind his audio-visual (“AVDJ”) are a unique blend of turntablism and video mixing, via the clever use of digital DJ systems to control video as well as audio.  The end result is a monsterous [sic] feast for the senses.  Loaded with references to cult classic TV and film, Sampology remixes, stutters, and scratches his way through themes such as Ghostbusters, Alf, Dr Who, and the Muppets, along with a mashup of a “Weird Al” vs. Michael Jackson. In amongst all this, Sampology throws in live video of him working the decks, as well as clips he has produced himself.

Advertised as being accompanied by “Tom Thum and guests”, I unfortunately missed the “and guests”, showing up mid-way through Tom Thum‘s set.  If you’ve never seen an accomplished beat-boxer live in action, it’s certainly a sight to behold.  Thum, however, appears to be in a league of his own,  carving a niche of what could possibly be described as “Mouth Turntablist Acid Jazz Dub’n'Bass-step”.  If you think that’s a mouthful, wait ’til you see what he can do.
Thum and Sampology complement each other perfectly, as demonstrated by a mid-set battle, for which I honestly could not pick a winner.
Overall, this gig was a hit, as confirmed by the standing-room-only standing ovation, with cries for more.  If you live in Adelaide, WA, or Brisbane, you’re not too late to catch the pair in action.

New Search, Charities and more!

So the last few months have been quite an adventure for the team here at Posse. After an exciting 2010, we have taken what we learned during the year and re-grouped to start 2011 with some radical changes.

Firstly we grew our awesome team that works on the Posse product in Sydney, we then started working on the new Posse platform which is what you are playing with today. The approach we took was quite interesting too. We basically said “If Posse was a clean slate, but we take what we have learnt in the last 2 years, what would we do?

We agreed that we would start from scratch, focus on events, keep it simple, make it easier to share with friends and get the fans closer to the artists they love!

So that’s exactly what we did!

The Posse site you are seeing now has some important qualities; firstly its much simpler to use, and focuses on what is most important, and secondly it is a platform to be building new and exciting features!

Today we introduce some more of these features!!! The charity functionality has returned, where users can nominate to donate commissions to a selected charity. We have some great charities and not-for-profit organisations that we are supporting including; FBi Radio, Oaktree, Reach & Youth off the Streets.

We have also been doing a lot of work on improving the search experience. We want to make it as easy as possible for you guys to find the events and Posses that you are interested in. You will see that search results are much richer in functionality, and not only return relevant Posses, but other Posses that you may be interested in as well as any events that match your search query.

I must give huge props to the team that tirelessly worked late nights to bring you what you see today; Rob R, Mitch, Alex, Vaughan, Peter & Glen.

Cheers
Rob James (CTO)

Creamfields Sydney 30/4/11

Saturday was my virgin Creamfields outing. It was my 6th festival since the start of 2011, but my first solely dance music experience.

I wanted to go for two acts –  Skrillex and Deadmau5, just like everyone else- but was pretty keen to check out other DJs as a way to spend my rainy Saturday.

Wandering from stage to stage with my pocket full of drink tickets (Me: here’s 50 bucks, Lady behind Counter: Here is a large cardboard sheet that you have to origami into submission) and a vodka redbull in hand I kind of wandered around checking out  a different scene than I normally would.

Creamfields was set both inside and outside- around the Entertainment Quarter and the Horden. This was a welcome change as a lot festivals fall victim to sound issues from stages cancelling each other out, not so at Creamfields sir. And a good thing too, as there was no live instrumentation to be able to crank the bejesus out of the amps – so the fact a bunch of mp3s managed to have an impact was a salute to the organisers.

I was standing knee deep in mud three rows fcrom the front when Skrillex hit the stage. That kid from the USA has exploded in the last year, and love him or hate him, you have to appreciate he is first a rock star, and second a DJ. Yes, I think his songs are great, and his mixes are deadly, but he really works to get the crowd going and leaves his sweat on the decks. Felt like I was at a rock show in a mosh. No amount of Jesus Pose will ever get the same reaction from me, no matter how amazing you are as a DJ.

Deadmau5 was visually amazing, dude sure knows how to command a stage, and it really was an amazing set, there is a reason he is as big as he is.

It was also nice to see a whole bunch of Aussie’s properly represented on the line up, not just opening the event – most notably Tom Piper and Cassian who have both been doing some big things.

Photos courtesy of Onelove are up on the Facebook page here but in order to really capture what it was like, check out Skrillex head cam video as he throws himself into the crowd. Real man.
